The Joint Western Arctic Climate Study 2002 involved ships of three nations, Canada, Japan and United States in a concerted multi-disciplinarian climate impact study.  The three primary research platforms were R/V Mirai, CCGS Louis S. St Laurent and CCGS Sir Wilfrid LaurierUSCGC Healy and Polar Star also contributed.  Each vessel according to its capabilities worked in either primarily open water, ice edge or pack ice.
