Accomplishments

More than 20 years research experience in ice-covered oceans. Studies in the ice-covered seas of the Arctic, western Atlantic and Russian Far East.

Publication of over 50 papers and reports in the fields of high-latitude oceanography, sea ice and boundary-layer dynamics.

Leader of 30 expeditions to Arctic seas (winter and summer). Pioneer in the use of aircraft for oceanographic survey, geochemical sampling and mooring deployment and recovery in perennially ice-covered seas. Successful completion of long-term Arctic mooring projects with cumulative deployed value exceeding $15M.

Design and development of specialized equipment for the conduct of aircraft-based oceanography in ice-covered seas. Design and development of specialized instrumentation for long-term ice observation in polar seas. Patent and licence holder for innovative instrumentation.
