Bedford Institute of Oceanography Geophysicist Stefan Blasco describing the Kopanoar Pingo mud volcano trace. The Kopanoar Pingo is a 20m high
subsurface Pingo Like Feature north of Tuktoyaktuk. It is one of what is suspected to be a group of about 100 mud volcanoes in the Mackenzie/Beaufort region that are believed to be formed by the process of methane gas venting Mirai conducted a detailed multibeam survey of the site prior to planned core sampling later in the cruise.
With fellow researcher Sanai Chiba looking on, Rick Crawford mounts a small CTD unit onto a zooplankton bongo net.  The CTD records accurate conductivity, temperature and depth data for the duration of the net tow.  Data is downloaded later to a computer.
